Course Description:

 

The epidemic has been called the number one public health problem in the nation.  We will discuss the medical and epidemiological facts, the social, economic, legal and political implications, and public policy alternatives regarding this problem.

Requirements:

 

1. Participation in class activities

2. Public policy position paper (1000 words) - Due July 6

3. Final Exam - June 29, In-class

 

Graduate Credit:

 

Students taking this course for graduate credit must, in addition to the requirements listed above, complete a research paper (approx. 3000 words) on a topic to be determined through consultation with the instructor.  In general, a greater degree of sophistication is expected in the work of graduate students.
