Creighton College of Arts and Sciences provides high quality undergraduate programs in the liberal arts and sciences. The members of the College are united in their dedication both to the pursuit of truth and the implementation of that truth in service.
The College demands from its faculty excellent teaching, sustained and enhanced by on-going scholarship, and research significant in its own rights. It demands of its students breadth of learning, fostered by experiences in both liberal arts and sciences and in professional education. The former seeks to develop perspectives and insights into the issues, events, ideas and values which abound in human experience; the latter seeks to instill a comprehensive knowledge of a field as preparation for both career competence and continuing professional growth. Both experiences seek to present truth as an individual and societal good by educating our students to be effective decision-makers.
As Jesuit, the College develops the abilities and talents of its members to their fullest, inculcating critical and creative thinking, relating the present with the best of our past, and shaping a future that benefits humankind to the greater glory of God.
As Catholic, the College asks of its faculty, staff and graduates a commitment to the generous service of others, not merely within the university community, but also within the larger American and world communities. Through such, the College offers the Church a community of thinking and discourse.

College Identity Statement
The Creighton College of Arts and Sciences is dedicated to the vision of Catholic education articulated by John Paul II in the Apostolic Constitution on Catholic Universities, Ex Corde Ecclesiae: "By vocation, the Universitas magistrorum et scholarium is dedicated to research, to teaching and to the education of students who freely associate with their teachers in a common love of knowledge." In the College, each professor willingly brings his or her expertise to the work of academic and professional disciplines and undergraduate education. From diverse backgrounds, students are united in their commitment to join the College as fellow learners with the faculty. Supported by College staff, students and faculty seek to realize fullest intellectual, personal, and moral potential of the basic human desire for truth. They accept the responsibility to nurture a zeal for truth, to encourage accountability to the expertise of others, and to advance the humanizing social and personal consequences of the truth. Thus, the College is the model of the liberal ideal in Western intellectual culture and the vital core of the University.
Priority of Persons. As a community of inquiry that is committed to the ongoing development of faculty and the education of students as fellow seekers for truth, the College is committed to interpersonal, face-to-face intellectual formation. Faculty interaction with students is the defining feature of the College's educational work. Class size limitations mark this identity, as well as discussions with students outside the classroom. Student participation in faculty research and faculty led study-abroad opportunities promote and extend this interaction beyond the classroom. Student departmental clubs, faculty colloquia and the participation of faculty and students in discussions with visiting lecturers reinforce the ideal of truth-seeking as an interpersonal endeavor. Above all, the atmosphere of personal availability and accountability creates an environment in which the whole person is involved in the common project of learning. Thus, the College is always challenged to link intellectual inquiry with the needs, duties, and aspirations of the human condition.
Nurturing Peers. The Core Curriculum of the College reflects the desire of the faculty to encourage students to be participants in a broad range of intellectual disciplines. The breadth of the curriculum embodies commitment to intellectual accountability across disciplines. The breadth is matched by commitment to concentrated study designed to empower students to become full and equal participants in the disciplines that define modern intellectual life. In this way, major programs at Creighton guide students toward becoming full practitioners of the major discipline. In most cases, this means that major programs are shaped by the need to prepare students for the demands of graduate study and to introduce them to the most advanced research in the disciplines. Whatever the eventual careers chosen by student, the major invites students to become full peers in the College's community of inquiry. A willingness to offer students the education necessary to become co-workers and colleagues demonstrates the openness of a truly liberal intellectual life.
Affirming Faith. Members of College, welcomed from all faiths and backgrounds, affirm that the Jesuit and Catholic identity of the College strengthens the love of truth and nurtures a vision of education that serves the world. The Jesuit and Catholic foundation of the College presumes a fundamental harmony between the truths of faith, the disciplines of rational inquiry, and a life of service. The College supports and encourages students and faculty to pursue the integration of the life of faith and love of learning. The College educates Catholic students to become articulate participants in the ongoing definition of Catholic identity, and provides all students with the intellectual bases to reflect upon questions of faith. The Jesuit and Catholic basis of the College unifies the community of inquiry by establishing the Western Christian intellectual tradition as a common touchstone, allowing faculty and students from diverse background and in many disciplines to engage in reflection that contributes to the renewal of Christian witness in the contemporary world. The living Jesuit and Catholic tradition of the College engages other traditions respectfully and with the spirit of mutual instruction. The College encourages all students, and faculty to embody and enact the truth, providing opportunities to link a pursuit of knowledge with service of others and nurturing the spirit of sacrifice necessary to reach those most in need. In this way, the College bears witness to the humanizing goal of Jesuit and Catholic intellectual formation, a goal that realizes and perfects the ideals of liberal education.
