FACULTY
MISSION & IDENTITY GROUP
ACTIVITIES
Shortly after its
establishment in 2003, a survey was sent to all persons having expressed
an interest in FMIG (n=82) to gain better insight in the kinds of activities
that would be most useful to faculty CU members.
Respondents were asked to
express their interests in six possible activities, and add more if so
desired. Rank ordered by preference (from highest to lowest), these are:
- A quarterly or biannual discussion forum (approx. 1-2 hours each) on pertinent topics in Jesuit higher education (e.g., topics covered in recent issues of the magazine "Conversations on Jesuit Higher Education ”)
(5.8 on a 1-7 score)
- Gaining more in-depth insight in the history and spirituality of Jesuit Higher Education.
(5.3 on a 1-7 score)
- A discipline-specific discussion group on the translation of the university mission as a Catholic and Jesuit University to your own academic field/discipline/school?
(5.2 on a 1-7 score)
- A discussion of the university’s reward structures (e.g., rank & tenure and salary) for activities directly tied to the university’s mission as a Catholic and Jesuit university
(4.9 on a 1-7 score)
- Gaining more in-depth insight in the foundations of Catholic social teaching
(4.8 on a 1-7 score)
- An interdisciplinary discussion group on pedagogical methods in Jesuit higher education
(4.4 on a 1-7 score)
Based on the survey results, FMIG has begun developing
activities in the first three of the six categories. For specific
activities, please consult the main page.
