MILFORD SPIRITUAL CENTER
July 13, 2000
I am responding to your letter of June 23rd regarding Interreligious Dialogue.
Milford Spiritual Center does have a welcoming policy regarding other denominations and religions. I would calculate that our retreatants range from 10%-15% from other faith traditions or other Christian denominations. In addition, we rent our facilities to other Christian denominations as well as to Hebrew Union College.
A particular program which highlights other religious traditions is our Contemplative Retreat which draws on the esoteric tradition of Buddhism. This retreat model is structured around the practice of sitting and walking meditation as found in Buddhist and Zen retreats. This form of prayer is very similar to Ignatian attentiveness to an examination of "Consciousness" and leads to Finding God in all Things.
I have a particular interest in other religious traditions. I worked for an ecumenical foundation in Asia for five years and pursued an intensive practice of Buddhism in India for two years during 1974-75.
Thank you for taking this initiative and I wish you well in your endeavor. Please keep me informed. If I can be of assistance, don't hesitate to ask.
My Best Wishes, Daniel 0. Roche Executive Director
